Canada suspends exports of drone technology to Turkey

Oct 17 (Reuters) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that Canada’s suspension of exports of some drone technology was “not in line with the spirit of the NATO alliance,” the Turkish president’s office said late on Friday.

Canada earlier this month suspended some UAV exports to Turkey as it investigates allegations that the technology was used by Azerbaijani forces to fight Armenia. Turkey’s foreign ministry has said the suspension of exports “shows double standards.”

Turkey’s military exports to Azerbaijan have increased sixfold this year, with sales of drones and other military equipment rising to $77 million just last month before the conflict escalated in the Nakka region, the report said, citing export data.
